Gua Sha vs Face Rollers – Which one do you need?

When it comes to beauty tools, everyone has their own preferences. While a face roller is practically easy and simple to use, Gua Sha requires a proper technique that needs learning and practice. Though face rollers and gua sha have got popular on social media in the last few years, they have been a staple in Chinese skincare routines since the 7th century.

Face Rollers particularly Rose Quartz ones are often seen on every Beauty Enthusiast’s skincare shelf. These are perfect for:

  • Stimulating collagen production
  • Reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improving elasticity of the skin
  • Soothing irritated, sensitive skin
  • Reducing pore size
  • Increasing lymphatic drainage
  • Exercising facial muscles
  • Distributing product evenly on the skin
  • Encouraging product to be received deeply into the skin
  • Energising and renewing the complexion
  • Amplifying the health and glow of the skin
  • Reducing puffiness around the eyes
  • Detoxifying the skin

Now let’s concentrate on Gua Sha Massage Benefits:

  • Encourages facial detoxification
  • Reduces dark circles and puffiness under the eyes
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Prevents wrinkles on the forehead, and around the lips
  • Lifts and firms the skin
  • Reduces blackheads and clogged pores
  • Lightens freckles and pigmentation
  • Tones the skin
  • Makes the skin look radiant and smoother

The natural cooling effects of the stone in both facial roller and gua sha help in soothing and de-puffing the skin while gently massaging tense facial muscles. There is no right or wrong when it comes to choosing between a face roller and a Gua sha tool. Many facialists prefer Gua Sha over the face roller because it can help in achieving precise results. It does require more effort than using a face roller so if you are comfortable with the right strokes and pressure for your face, you should definitely try Gua Sha. For my busy lifestyle with two kids, a face roller suits me better. I like that these tools come at different price points like this one from Revolution Skincare is quite affordable and is great for travel if you don’t want to risk losing your expensive one. You may use both facial roller and gua sha plate alternatively or on a need basis if that works for you.

Until next time, Ashh xo

  2. I have both and enjoy using them. The roller is quite gentle while with Gua Sha I can do some intense massage on my face. 🙂
