Nurturing Your Skin Through the Chill

As winter blankets the world in frosty landscapes, our skin requires a little extra TLC to combat the harsh effects of the season. The cold air and lower humidity levels can leave our skin feeling parched and vulnerable. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the intricacies of winter skincare, addressing the specific needs of your lips and hands.

Nurturing Your Skin Through the Chill - winter skincare
  • Hydration is key: To keep your skin hydrated from the inside out, start your winter skincare routine by drinking more water. Consider using a humidifier at home to combat the dry indoor air, preventing your skin from losing vital moisture.
  • Gentle Cleansing: Choose a gentle, moisturising cleanser that cleans without removing your skin’s natural oils. Hot showers should be avoided because they dry the skin even more.
  • Exfoliate Gently: Use a gentle exfoliant 1-2 times per week to remove dead skin cells and allow your moisturisers to perform more effectively. To avoid over-drying, choose an exfoliant with hydrating properties.
  • Moisturise Regularly: Invest in a thick, emollient moisturiser to help your skin form a protective barrier. Apply moisturiser immediately after cleansing to lock in the moisture your skin requires.
  • Sunscreen, Even in Winter: Don’t put away your sunscreen just because it’s winter. To protect your skin from winter sun damage, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30.

Don’t forget your Lips and Hands

  • Lip Love: Give extra care to your lips in the winter months. Gently exfoliate your dry lips using a homemade sugar scrub to eliminate dead skin cells. Afterward, apply a moisturising lip balm to lock in moisture and shield your lips from the cold winds.
  • Hand-in-Hand with Care: Wear protective gloves to protect your hands from the winter chill, especially while going outside. To cleanse your hands without stripping them of their natural oils, use a light, moisturising hand wash. Make continuous hand moisturising a priority to combat the drying impacts of the season. Apply a generous coat of hand lotion before bedtime, and for added nourishment, consider wearing moisturising gloves overnight. Keep a small hand cream in your bag for on-the-go hydration and to avoid dry hands.

By implementing these winter skincare methods into your routine, you can protect your skin from the harsh elements and keep a healthy, beautiful look throughout the winter. Remember that experiencing winter’s beauty without compromising the health of your skin, lips, and hands requires a persistent and adaptable skincare routine.

  2. I don’t really struggle with my facial skin during winter because my skin is oily, but when it comes to my hands it’s a disaster! My hands are so sensitive to the cold and dry out so quickly that I often have bleeding cracks on my knuckles. I still struggle to find the hand cream or lotion that will help me put it under control. 🙁
