How to keep your hands looking young for longer?

Whether it is about scrubbing dishes or wearing a solitaire ring, our hands always catch attention. Most of us work really hard to look youthful by using anti-ageing products for our face, covering our greys, and getting haircuts that make our face look a few years younger. We often forget our hands that are always working so hard and need some extra TLC to get on top of the game. If we neglect our hands, they will reflect our true age and sometimes may make us look even older than our actual age. Most people start noticing the ageing of their hands in their 40s. However, it is never too late to start taking good care of our hands by exfoliating, moisturizing, and protecting.

Cleansing: With general COVID-19 precautions, we have been washing our hands more than ever and therefore it is essential to choose the hand wash which not only cleans our hands properly but also keeps them soft.

Exfoliating: Dull, dry hands do not look appealing and they enhance the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It is recommended to use exfoliators on not just face and body but hands too. Regular exfoliation will help your hands absorb products for more effective results and help even out skin tone. Opting for a gentle hand scrub will help avoid stripping hands of essential moisture. Don’t forget to moisturize immediately after.

Moisturising: Dehydration is one of the leading causes of premature ageing. With frequent washing, it is important to moisturize your hands regularly to keep them soft and nourished. I like to keep a small hand cream in my bag so that I can keep my hands hydrated and moisturized even when I am on the go.

Protect: We always hear that sunscreen is our best friend and is essential even in winter. Protecting your hands from UV rays can also keep your hands from looking shrivelled as you age. Investing in a hand cream with added sun protection will save your time and effort in using two products.

Reverse Ageing: Using retinol products can help in reversing some signs of ageing like removing age spots and treating hyperpigmentation. This can be achieved with the help of some over-the-counter or prescription topical creams containing retinol or retinoic acid. Chemical peels or professional laser treatments can bring about more dramatic results.

Extra TLC: Every now and then, we should treat our hands to hand treatments and manicures. You do not have to do it professionally. Using a hand mask does the trick most of the time and gives our hands the much-needed TLC.

  1. Would love to try a hand mask! I always put hand cream on before I go to bed.
