As summer settles in with its golden light and longer evenings, it’s the perfect time to refresh your home with intention. More than just aesthetics, a seasonal home reset aims to create a calm, inviting atmosphere that reflects the season’s slower pace. And one of the most important — yet often overlooked — elements? Fragrance.
Here’s how you can embrace the summer shift through decluttering + scent layering — featuring some of the best home scents.
✨ Step 1: Clear the Visual Clutter
Start your makeover by getting rid of physical clutter, particularly from areas that are most energetic, like your bedside table, kitchen countertops, and entryway. Use lighter pieces and natural textures instead of bulky fabrics and wintery fragrances.
Tip: Even replacing a chunky candle with a reed diffuser or a minimalist scent vessel can shift the vibe instantly.

Step 2: Energise Mornings with summer scents like Citrus & Neroli
Mornings deserve a boost — and this is where the Glade Aromatherapy Cool Mist Diffuser in Pure Happiness truly shines. Its Orange + Neroli essential oil blend offers that perfect balance of bright citrus and sun-kissed floral. It’s cheerful, light, and incredibly energising — like opening a window on a warm morning.
Place this diffuser in:
- Kitchen or living room: to start your day on a fresh, happy note
- Home office: to increase focus without feeling overly herbal
- Entryway: for a welcoming ambiance
It uses a cool-mist mechanism, so the scent feels clean, not overpowering — ideal for summer.
Step 3: Seasonal Home Reset – Create Calm with an Aroma Diffuser
As the day winds down, it’s time to lean into softness and serenity. The Rio Mia Aroma Diffuser (also used as a humidifier or a night lamp in kids’ bedrooms) is my go-to for a minimalist diffuser that fits any room and gently releases scent with a soft glow. It changes colours, and my little girl finds it very fascinating. It’s compact, portable, and chic — but most importantly, it works beautifully with your choice of essential oil blends.

While the Glade Cool Mist Diffuser works beautifully on its own, I often add a few drops of their ‘Pure Happiness’ Orange + Neroli blend to water in my Mia diffuser instead. It lets me control the intensity and works like a charm in smaller rooms. I sometimes like to use it on the shoe cabinet just on the entryway (as seen in the photo above).
It’s also more affordable to reuse the essential oil blend this way if you already have a diffuser.
Step 4: Layer Tranquillity with a Reed Diffuser
Evenings are for winding down, and a reed diffuser can instantly create a fragrant ambiance without being heavy on the senses. The Aery Before Sleep Reed Diffuser brings a dreamy softness to the air and is my new favourite. With lavender, eucalyptus, and cedarwood, it creates a cocoon of calm — ideal for slow summer nights. I often get its refill pack and then use it in my favourite reed diffuser vessel that matches best with the room decor.
Place it in:
- Your bedroom: near your bedside for passive diffusion
- Hallway or landing: to subtly scent the air as you transition rooms
Unlike mist diffusers, this one works silently in the background, requiring zero effort but offering a steady, soothing presence.

Bonus Tip: Style With Intention
- Use small vases of seasonal stems nearby for a layered sensory effect.
- Place reed diffusers on a travertine or marble tray.
- Pair with soft linen or a pale-toned candle for that added touch of harmony.
Result? Ideal for sunny mornings or post-cleaning resets, this invigorating scent infuses the room with a vibrant, floral-citrus lift. Summer is more than just a season; it’s an emotion.
Until next time, Ashh xo
